Patrick Grady MP, SNP Member of Parliament for Glasgow North, statement at the Emirates Arena, Friday 9th June:
"People in Glasgow North, across the city, and across the whole of Scotland, have voted once again to make their voices heard more loudly and clearly at Westminster - and that voice is needed now more than ever.
"I would like to thank people in Glasgow North who have once again placed their faith in me and their faith in the SNP – and no matter how you voted, I will continue work for each and every constituent in Glasgow North to the best of my ability.
"Let me thank the Returning Officer and her staff, and the police, who have ensured a safe and efficient poll and count. Let me also pay tribute to the other candidates, particularly Patrick and Pam for a good-natured and spirited campaign - both no doubt have more to give to politics in Scotland.
"And of course I want to thank all of my campaign team – especially all those who endured the rain today and kept going right through to the end. Special thanks of course to my amazing election agent Malcolm McConnell, thrown into the deep end six weeks ago, to our co-ordinator and guru Kenny McLean, and to the rest of the Firhill Young Team – they know who they are.
"One person in particular I would not be here without is now sadly not here with us – I want to pay particular tribute to Liz Quinn, who passed away in the final days of this campaign and who was a mentor and inspiration to me and so many of us in Glasgow SNP. I want to dedicate this result to her memory.
"And as I did in 2015, I want to promise the constituents of Glasgow North that I will work as if we live in the early days of a better nation – because we do."
